Situated in the traditional market town of Stockbridge, deep in the Hampshire country side, the Clos du Marquis provides a Country Inn atmosphere with the quaint elegance of a French Auberge in an intimate and relaxed setting.


Our Story


The Clos du Marquis was originally owned by Parisian born chef, Germain Marquis, and his wife Glanis. Germain received his training in Germany and in Paris directly from the connoisseur in French cooking,  Alain Dutournier.  Germain owned several award winning French restaurants in South Africa before settling in the Hampshire countryside at the Leckford Hutt in 2004 where they were joined by husband and wife team, Maranda (Chef) and Garth Jacobs (Maitre d’) to help run the business.


For nearly a decade, Maranda continued to learn the ways of traditional French cooking from Germain who’s particular expertise was creating dishes from the Gascon region in South West France.


In 2012, Germain and Glanis retired leaving the restaurant in the very capable hands of the younger generation. After 16 wonderful years at the Leckford Hutt, the Clos du Marquis is now situated a stones throw away on the charming Stockbridge high street.

.. Having been introduced to 'Clos du Marquis' a few years ago and made several visits since, it seemed the perfect choice for our small and intimate wedding lunch. Garth went out of his way from our first approach to ensure it would be a day to remember. The small function room was perfect for our numbers and we were given free reign to decorate it the day before. Our guests were bowled over by the quality of the food (something of course we are used to) and the service I could only describe as invisible but everything just happened and what of course we love is the charm and repartee of Garth. Just a quick note of enormous thanks for such a wonderful evening last night.  You, Orsi and the Clos du Marquis team looked after us so well and everything went like clockwork.  The food was, of course, absolutely outstanding, as always.  We really could not have asked for better.


We have no idea how you manage to look after so many people/tables at once, giving everyone so much attention and making everyone feel so special, without even dropping a fork!  You are the consummate professional.


Thank you too for the most thoughtful birthday dessert, I was very touched.

It was a truly excellent evening and we are most grateful.
